| | Obituary | Kathy Domec El Hejjali, 41, passed away Saturday, June 13, after a 3-year battle with breast cancer. She faced her illness, with courage, faith, hope and determination that was inspiring to all who were blessed to know her. Kathy was a life-long resident of the Houston area. She is survived by her husband, Khalid El Hejjali; sons Robert and Joshua Cruz; mother, Karin Yates and father, Mike Domec and wife Linda; brothers, Michael Domec Jr, Justin Yates and Ricky Yates; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless other extended family and friends. She was born on April 6, 1968 and graduated from Spring High School in 1986. She received a Bachelor’s degree in 1990 and Master’s degree in 1991, from the University of Houston.
In 1991, Kathy began her career in HISD as an English as a Second Language teacher at Stephen F. Austin High School, where she taught until 2003. From 2003 until 2007, she taught at Cesar Chavez High School, where she was ESL Coordinator. Kathy was a truly gifted teacher and received many awards and accolades during her career, but the achievement of which she was proudest was the difference she was able to make in the lives of her students.
Kathy’s greatest accomplishment, and the one that brought her the most joy, was the raising of her two wonderful sons, Robert and Joshua. They were the center of her life, into which she poured her whole heart; her greatest sorrow was in having to leave them so soon.
Kathy enjoyed her large extended family and did extensive work on her family’s genealogy. She was involved in the ministries of First United Methodist Church - Pasadena, (name of group at The Rose) and was a member of the Pink Phurree dragon boat team. She was a romantic at heart and loved the color purple.
Kathy was a wonderful wife; mother; a loving daughter, sister and friend; and a faithful Christian with a truly beautiful spirit. In her short time on earth she touched so many with her radiant smile, joyful laughter and giving nature.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 6PM to 8PM at Fairmont Funeral Home 6777 Fairmont Pkwy in Pasadena, TX.
